    • The Markey Cancer Center’s Kentucky Cancer Registry is seeking a qualified tumor registrar (Abstractor Coordinator Senior Regional) to conduct data reporting for a portion of small, acute care hospitals across the state. This position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining reporting procedures including access of cancer records (either in person or remotely, if available), case finding, and abstracting while maintaining excellent quality. The position may also assist in abstracting non-hospital facility cases or helping with special studies as requested. Will participate in quality audits and correction of data as needed.
    • This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement.

Overview

The Cancer Registrar, working in collaboration with physicians, administrators, the cancer team and other departments, promotes quality patient care management by ensuring timely, accurate and complete data is incorporated and maintained on all types of cancers and certain benign conditions diagnosed and/or treated within the institution.  The Registrar serves as a valuable resource for cancer information, monitoring quality of care and clinical practice guidelines, assessing patterns of care and referrals and monitoring adverse outcomes.  The Registrar is involved in managing and analyzing clinical cancer information for the purposes of education, research and outcomes measurement.  The Registrar follows data collection, reporting and quality standards for compliance to state, federal and third party accreditation and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):

 

  • Associates of Applied Science (AAS) or equivalent education as required to sit for certification
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) by the National Cancer Registrars Association is required
  • Current CTR must be continually maintained in good standing

            Experience (required and preferred):

 

 

  • Preferred CTR in good standing with two years experience in a cancer registry
  • Basic experience requirements are satisfied through the CTR certification eligibility requirements.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Cancer Registry software systems.
  • Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at a proficient level and speed preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools preferred

Job Description


Responsibilities

This position requires processing all outcome studies including data requests from physicians, Network Cancer Committee, Pediatric Cancer Committee, administration, marketing, business development, KY Cancer Registry, and other outside sources. The position requires a thorough knowledge of the Cancer Registry data system, the American College of Surgeons Cancer Program and the National Cancer Data Base. The Cancer Data Compliance Specialist will design and produce statistical reports/graphs as requested for outcome reporting. The Cancer Data Compliance Specialist will review cancer data abstracts for accuracy in analysis of cancer data and will assist in training cancer data analysts as necessary in quality issues, including new cancer data standards. The Cancer Data Compliance Specialist will be available to assist with abstracting data to maintain the minimal six month abstracting standard. The Cancer Data Compliance Specialist will process the quality initiatives of Norton Cancer Institute with the assistance of the Manager and Supervisor of the Registry. The position reports NCI's NCDB Annual Call for Data and Quality reporting.
